Ephox announces Textbox.io version 2.0, the only true mobile rich-text editor

August 24, 2016Kristel GeleraProduct Updates

Textbox.io customers now have a competitive edge by leveraging a responsive mobile experience in the newly released version 2.0.

A mobile UI for everyone

Textbox.io 2.0 mobile interface

Mobile editing enables phone or tablet users to create rich-text content instantly with more freedom. It adds significant value for any product designed for users looking to improve productivity in creating content.

Textbox.io is the only true mobile rich-text editor in the market. From mobile browsers to native applications, Textbox.io 2.0 delivers improved advanced mobile UI stability and consistency, specifically for small-screen phones. Textbox.io has been the go-to editor for tablets for some time, but historically, phones represented unique challenges in terms of how the editor would appear. Now on mobile devices, editor menus will dynamically move into the toolbar, enabling horizontal scrolling instead of using a “more drawer.” Features and dialogs that do not fit on the screen are automatically disabled.

Textbox.io is available to almost any business creating content and has been trusted by companies like IBM, who use Ephox’s content creation solutions in their leading social business application IBM Connections. Check out the Textbox.io 2.0 webinar recording to learn more.

Image editing, right inside the editor

A new Image Editing tool is included in the 2.0 update. It lets users perform common editing tasks within the editor, including flip, rotate, crop and the resampling of images. This represents a massive productivity boost for the “average” user who won’t necessarily have basic Photoshop skills. When a user selects an image, editing tools appear in the toolbar, and on the context menu associated with the image.

Check out docs for working with images or Textbox.io 2.0 webinar recording to see the function in action.

New flexible theming

You can now change Textbox.io’s theme CSS with your choice of colors. A new tool to build custom stylesheets with the SDK in the theme folder is included. See Customizing the User Interface Colors and The Most Advanced Skin Creator for Rich-text Editors for more information.

Accessibility checking for everyone

In addition to the new image editing features, a new accessibility checking tool was added in Textbox.io 2.0.

This is big news for businesses where accessibility is critical to engaging with their customers. The new service makes checking for common accessibility issues easy for content creators. It uses an interface that steps through each error and in most cases also recommends a solution.

The checker operates in a similar fashion to running a spell check in Word, where a dialog walks the user through identified errors. It is a familiar experience for most people that needs little to no training.

If you’re not familiar with the importance of creating accessible content, our guide is a great place to start.

Reduced download size

The advantages of a reduced payload on page load times are well understood. The core editor download size was reduced by over 50% in the update. This was achieved by extracting packaged resources into separate files. The minified GZIP package is now around 264kb.

Edge and Android support for Textbox.io

Another exciting announcement is that Edge and Android support is available for Textbox.io 2.0. The minimum supported version is v5. Textbox.io will work on version 4 using the current release of Chrome.

Textbox.io now supports Microsoft Edge too, benefiting businesses with a large number of users on the cutting edge of Microsoft’s browser technologies.

Get the Textbox.io SDK

If you’d like to use Textbox.io in your next project—or perhaps you already need its advanced content creation features—you have two easy choices to get started. Download the SDK here, or check out third party integration options.
