Why Ephox is the choice for WYSIWYG content creation: Premium plugins & PowerPaste

September 6, 2016Kristel GeleraCompany News

This post continues our series explaining why Ephox is the only choice for rich-text (aka WYSIWYG) content creation and editing. Our previous post explores our customer support and commercial licensing.

It is well known that TinyMCE is a powerful rich-text editor, turning HTML textareas into a robust content creation tool. If you’ve looked inside the TinyMCE package, you’ll see it includes more than 40 plugins out of the box.

If you were not aware of this, download TinyMCE and check the plugins folder. Each plugin has it’s own documentation page, including configuration options. If you’re new to using TinyMCE, start with these pages and you’ll be on your way to becoming a TinyMCE expert.

Our team has also developed advanced content creation solutions that integrate into TinyMCE. These paid solutions are available as part of our new subscription offering.

Solutions include advanced copy/paste, accessibility checking, file management and @mentions. We will highlight these solutions in this series, starting today with PowerPaste.

PowerPaste is a perfect place to begin our review, and not only because it’s the most popular plugin. PowerPaste is an example of how companies who care about UX focus on providing services that compliment their user workflows. Rather than force users to adjust to the product’s limitations, they do the opposite.

An example of this involves Microsoft Word, a standard part of many content production workflows. Many people create content in Word, share it with their colleagues, and then paste it into their CMS. You might have done this yourself, many times.

The trouble is, the simple process of copy/pasting brings Word’s classes into the CMS. It impacts everything from style sheets, document layout, and formatting. Even the display of some Unicode characters. The user usually has two choices if they want to keep original formatting:

  1. Open the content in a source code view and manually remove Word’s classes.
  2. Paste the content as plain text and then reapply their formatting.

Both of these tasks can take a lot of time and negatively impact productivity. Fortunately, there is a third option! Get PowerPaste to automatically clean imported content and output standard HTML in the editor.

If your application involves a workflow* where users cut/paste content from Word or the internet reach out to our sales team to discuss the benefits Ephox PowerPaste brings your business.

* For example, content management systems, transactional or marketing email services, marketing automation, event management solutions.

In the video below, join Ephox pre-sales engineer Allen Nguyen as he explains the ins and outs of PowerPaste.
