This post continues our series explaining why Ephox is the only choice for rich-text (aka WYSIWYG) content creation and editing. Our previous post explores our file management solution MoxieManager. Today, we’ll take a look at spell checking.
Not all native browser spell checkers are created equal. They vary in available languages, commonly used words, and industry specific technical terms.
If globally consistent spelling matters to you or your customers, use Ephox Spell Checker Pro.
Spell Checker Pro automatically activates when a user types in the editor. By default, a red, wavy line appears under misspelled words, and users can select a suggested correction with a right-click of their mouse.
In addition to the inline option, you can set a dialog mode that helps proofread the document at once. It walks you step-by-step through each error, with the option of ignoring or accepting suggestions. A little like Word’s dialog spell check.
You can also specify an array of words to ignore, or add, as a part of building a custom directory. This customization is useful if your business uses industry specific, scientific, or medical terms. For example, company names or original product names. It also helps where editorial guidelines contradict common word usage (“Internet” versus “internet”).
Global languages, globally
Spell Checker Pro supports a wide range of languages with robust, cross-browser language support.
Currently supported languages include English (US & UK plus a version including additional medical terms). Other languages include:
- Danish
- Dutch
- Finnish
- French
- German
- Italian
- Norwegian
- Portuguese (Brazilian and European)
- Spanish
- Swedish
An advantage of Spell Checker Pro is the ability to define a dictionary once, and deploy it to any browser. A server-side component integrates with a client-side, rich-text editor plugin to achieve this.
We currently support Jetty, Apache, Tomcat, and WebSphere. Click here for a preview for server-side components installation.
Test drive the Spell Checker Pro plugin for yourself. If you have questions, feel free to connect with our sales team or check out our pricing page for more information.
